Each year, the LSA, PQSA and Brain Injury SA partner to celebrate International Day of People with Disability (IDPwD) and acknowledge the achievements of people living with disability in the community.

The announcement of the government’s COVID-Ready Plan and South Australia’s borders opening to international and domestic travellers on 23 November 2021 has impacted plans for this year’s ‘Celebrate on the Square’ event. Due to the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks and the vulnerability of event attendees, the organising committee has postponed the public event until December 2022.

We will, however, celebrate International Day of People with Disability on 3 December 2021 at a ticketed event which will include a guest speaker and Lifetime Support Scheme participant, Tom Carr, who will share his journey and entrepreneurial achievements.

At the event, we will also present the 2021 International Day of People with Disability SA Awards. The IDPwD SA Award categories include:

  • Outstanding Person with Disability
  • Outstanding Volunteer
  • Outstanding Service or Support

The awards are being presented by the Honourable Michelle Lensink MLC, Minister for Human Services.

We welcome the opening of the borders and look forward to bringing ‘Celebrate on the Square’ to the public in 2022.
