Suspension from participation in the Lifetime Support Scheme (the Scheme) refers to circumstances where a person’s participation in the Scheme has been put on hold, and includes stopping the funding for Treatment, Care and Support during this time.

If the Lifetime Support Authority (LSA) determines your participation in the Scheme is to be suspended, your Service Planner will call you to let you know, and you will be notified 28 Calendar Days prior to the suspension In Writing. Written notification will include the specific reason for the intended suspension and include information about the steps the Lifetime Support Scheme (LSS) Participant can take to rectify the suspension.

If you are a LSS Participant, then you may have your participation suspended if you do not adhere to the conditions outlined in the LSS Rules. This includes refusing or avoiding participation in a medical or other assessment relating to Treatment, Care and Support provisions.

The LSA requires:

  • all LSS Participants to undertake an assessment when required to ensure necessary and reasonable Treatment, Care and Support is provided and to accommodate their needs as they change over time
  • Interim Participants to be assessed when applicable to ascertain if they are eligible for Lifetime Participation.

These assessments are critical to making sure LSS Participants receive the right services to maximise their recovery and quality of life.

If your participation in the Scheme is suspended, the LSA will not fund any Treatment, Care or Support you receive during your suspended period.

If you adhere to the conditions, such as participating in the required assessment, the suspension period may be lifted.

Suspension may be lifted if you inform the LSA In Writing and provide the documentary evidence to support the steps you have taken to rectify the suspension.

If the LSA are satisfied, following review of your documentation, the suspension may be lifted.

The LSA will confirm to you In Writing that the suspension has been lifted and confirm the date as being the date that the written communication from you was received as the date the suspension will cease from.

The maximum period for interim participation is 3 years from the date first accepted into the Scheme, including any period of suspension. If your interim participation period reaches 3 years and you have not adhered to the conditions outlined in the LSS Rules, you will transition out of the Scheme permanently.

Children between the age of six and 18 years of age with a brain injury, where the lifetime impact of their impairment is not apparent will be considered under exceptional circumstances to have the interim period extended and therefore not be suspended.

If you are suspended from the Scheme, you will remain an LSS Participant until the suspension has been rectified. Please contact your Service Planner.

If you disagree with the reasons why your participation was suspended, or the decision to transition out of the Scheme, you can lodge a dispute (in accordance with the LSS Rules Part 3 Rule 2).
