Jess is responsible for creating systems and processes for participant support at the Lifetime Support Authority (LSA), working with service providers, participants and families, staff members and the community to ensure that the particular attendant care, home modifications and equipment needs of Scheme participants are recognised and supported to maximise their return to community engagement and independence. Jess has been instrumental in ensuring that many LSS participants have access to the support and accommodation they require.

Currently, approximately 68% of participants on the LSS have a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and for some, the injury results in complex needs and they cannot live independently. Availability of accessible and appropriate accommodation is limited. With passion, care and exceptional skill, Jess has collaborated with service providers to acquire accommodation and care that is person-centred and meets each participant’s unique needs.

Jess has bridged a crucial gap between functions and people. With a holistic, collaborative approach, Jess took the initiative to learn the processes involved in the procurement function and combined her person-centred lens to the function.

Exemplary outcomes in service provision, and behaviours of professionalism, trust, respect, collaboration, and engagement are articulated in feedback from service providers, colleagues, and participants. In addition to the courage and tenacity of public sector values displayed by Jess, she provides the coordination needed to support the best outcomes for the LSS participants. With colleague collaboration, Jess has created a sustainable model of exceptional, person-centred support for participants of the Lifetime Support Scheme.

In recognition of Jess’s commitment to making a difference she was recently selected as a finalist for the Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Making a Difference – Living the South Australian Public Sector Purpose category. Watch this video to learn more about Jess.
